Client Tips & Reassurance
What to wear, what if the children won’t sit still, and why feeling nervous in front of the camera is completely normal.
Before a photoshoot, I often hear the same questions: “I don’t like having my photo taken.” “What should we wear?” “What if the kids don’t behave?”
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous before stepping in front of the camera. Here’s what to expect when you book a session with me.
Choosing the right location
Pick somewhere you genuinely enjoy — a place that feels comfortable and familiar.
If you’re worried about people watching, we can arrange a quieter time of day. Most passers-by won’t even notice us. Honestly, I’ll be the one with the camera — not you.
“I don’t like my photo taken”
Almost everyone says this at first, and that’s perfectly normal.
Remember: these photos are for you and your loved ones. They don’t have to be shared publicly.
After the first few minutes, you’ll relax. I’ll guide you naturally. My style is very natural, so often you won’t even realise I’m taking the photo. Sometimes I’ll pause us for a quick shot if I spot great lighting or an idea.
The clients who start off hating photos are often the ones directing me by the end.
Clothing
Wear natural colours that complement each other — they always photograph beautifully.
Bold outfits are fine if that’s your personality, but avoid clashing tones.
Bring extra clothing if you’d like variety. I’ll happily carry the bag.
Little ones
As a dad myself, I completely understand that children’s attention spans can be short.
Don’t worry — the session is about fun, not forcing smiles. Bring toys, snacks, or anything that helps them feel comfortable. I’ll happily act silly if it keeps them engaged.
Family shoots with little ones usually last around 45 minutes — enough time to catch genuine moments before they’ve had enough.
Weather, make-up, and editing
We live in Britain — the weather doesn’t always play ball. If needed, we can reschedule without any stress. I’ve shot in rain, snow, and sunshine, and sometimes those conditions make the most memorable photos.
Natural make-up tones usually work best, but it’s completely your choice. Wear whatever makes you feel confident.
Every photo is professionally edited. I won’t change who you are. If something makes you feel self-conscious, tell me and we’ll work with it.
Before we meet
I research the location beforehand — parking, terrain, and light — especially if I haven’t been there before. If you know something specific about the spot, tell me.
Some locations don’t have the best facilities, so a quick toilet break, snacks, water, and coffee are always worth sorting before we start.
If you have ideas or specific shots you’d love, share them before or during the session. I’ll guide you, and your input makes the photos more personal.
Most of all, have fun. I hope that once we’re into the session, the worries you arrived with will have gone — and you’ll have these little moments with your loved ones, captured for good.
